Hello all!

It’s Helena, director of sponsorships for Mark Growden’s CD Release.

We’ve had a tremendous showing of support for Mark’s efforts leading up to the CD release. We’re happy to announce that Bi-Rite Market, Delfina, The Crucible, Madusalon, Mona Caron, Stage Werx Theater, Sheilah Rogers Acupuncture LAc, Michael LaHood Productions, Eric Gillet Photography, and Tax Ninja have already joined as sponsors of Mark’s CD Release.

For those of you who don’t know, Mark has personally invested a very large amount of money, time and emotion in creating, producing, rehearsing, and manufacturing the album.

That being said, we want to invite you to support Mark and share in our appreciation for all of the hard work he has put into this project and into the Bay Area arts community.

I have created a page on Mark’s website showcasing all supporters and contributors to Mark’s work and upcoming CD Release. All of the primary sponsors are already listed at the top of the site. I want to extend an invitation to Mark’s community of friends, fans, and supporters to show your support with a donation.

Donations do come with perks, of course.

With a donation you will get a spot on Mark’s sponsorship webpage. The bigger the donation, the bigger the spot.

For $100 – Get an ad space with the name of you/your organization, a PR write-up of who you are and what you do, and a hyperlinked list of your contact information on the sponsorship page.

For $50 – Get the name of you/your organization and a hyperlinked list of your contact information on the sponsorship page.

For any donations less than $50, be it $49 or $5, your name will be listed as a sponsor on the website. Any donation counts. The money adds up and will help Mark greatly.

This is a great opportunity to support Mark, as well as get your name out there in the San Francisco arts and music community. With Mark’s website now getting hundreds of pageviews a day, it’s a few dollars well spent.

Revving Up by Revving Down

I’m home from the retreat. As much as I love the country, San Francisco is my home and I love it here. Plus it was nice to crawl into my big and firm king size bed last night.

We culminated our rehearsal retreat with a concert at The Orchard Spotlight on Saturday night. The Orchard Spotlight is an old church building that is now a theater. Last summer I was the artist in residence there. The sanctuary, with its big beautiful stained glass windows and thick reverb, was my bedroom. It was the perfect place for me to develop this material that is going on the album. It was nice to bring the material back with an ensemble.

The show went incredibly well. The ensemble was subtle and nuanced. The theater was sold out and the crowd was so warm and receptive. We received two standing ovations. I was thrilled to be able to show my Sonoma County crowd what I’ve been up to. Most of them had never seen me with an ensemble.

This morning I woke up with butterflies. This will be my first studio album of songs in 8 years. I’ve released two live albums and I’ve recorded two film scores since then, but this is different. There’s a different feeling when recording songs in a studio. I think I put more weight on it.

I get nervous about my voice. I don’t want to get sick this week. But worrying about it does me no good. My job now is to relax and take good care of myself, warm my voice up every day, and stay in the moment.

Mark Growden Singing Workshop

If the eyes are the window to the soul, it is the voice from which the
soul blooms.

Each of us has a unique voice inside us waiting to be released. Just
as Michelangelo chiseled
away the excess to reveal his masterpiece La Pieta which he believed
to be imprisoned in the raw stone, we will sing songs, play games
and do exercises to remove the blocks that keep us from singing from
our soul.

Join San Francisco’s Mark Growden for a 4 week singing workshop
emphasizing the release of fear,
the expansion of the heart and the liberation that singing brings.
No prior musical or singing experience required.

The workshop will be held on Tuesdays in January 6, 13, 20, and 27
from 7pm-9pm at the Center for Sex & Culture. To find out more about
